Problem
The clothing industry faces numerous sustainability challenges, including fast fashion's environmental and social impacts, resource depletion, extensive textile waste, pollution from manufacturing processes and synthetic fibers, poor working conditions, and the difficulty of achieving transparency throughout the supply chain. Shifting consumer behavior towards sustainability is also a major hurdle. Collaborative efforts among stakeholders are crucial to implement solutions like sustainable sourcing, eco-friendly manufacturing, circular fashion models, and consumer education.
Objective
EverGreen’s objective was allowing users to be educated on common misconceptions and bad practices that are executed within the fashion industry. We believed that providing a mobile application that is a resource for sustainable brands, terminology, common practices, and a quiz to test the ability of the user’s newly acquired knowledge. Solution
By combining educational content, practical tools, and user engagement to test this content through digital media such as an mobile application could empower users to make more informed and sustainable choices in their clothing consumption habits, ultimately contributing to positive change in the industry.Challenges
Developing an educational application on sustainability in the clothing industry using Next.js presents challenges in creating engaging content, managing data integration, optimizing performance, handling state, ensuring SEO and accessibility, testing for cross-browser compatibility, and addressing security concerns. While being limited to the resources and knowledge learned about NextJS, our goal with EverGreen was to create an application that would reflect the best practices of web development.
